He played for Atletico Madrid from 2011 to 2015 scoring 13 goals in 127 caps. In 2015 Turan joined Barcelona. He has played on the Turkey under-16, under-17, under-18, under-19, under-20, under-21, and senior teams since 2002. Turan was named Footballer of the Year in 2008, 2009, and 2014 and Athlete of the Year in 2013. He is the first Turkish player to win a La Liga title in 2014. Turan was ranked as the 38th best player in the world by The Guardian in 2014 and was the only Turkish player to make the list.
