Dona and her brother Ernesto inherited the biotechnology company Serono. She graduated from Boston University’s College of Communications. She served as Executive Director, Public and Professional Affairs from 1992 to 1997 for Serono. She established the Serono Foundation and the Serono Symposia. In 2007 Serono was sold to Merck KgaA for $9 billion.
