Five years after settling in Hong Kong, he became a CEO and shareholder of Dragon Air. While in 1986, he was named both a chairman and president of World-Wide Shipping Group. Ever since he remained with the company that acquired a majority stake in Norway’s Bergesen fleet in 2003, when it was also renamed as shipping empire-Bergesen Worldwide (BW). Apart from the above, he founded the Sohmen Far East Foundation in 1991 to help young Austrians establish contacts in Asia. Throughout the years, Helmut accumulated his wealth, and by 2009, reached the 13th place on the list of richest people in Hong Kong.
