In 1968 his work become more explicit and he ventured into the emerging soft core genre. His 1968 film Inga was one of the first X-rated movies released in the U.S. He started in the hardcore genre in 1973 with the film Sleepy Head. Sarno directed under pseudonyms because he was reluctant to be associated with the genre. His last released was the film Suburban Secrets in 2004. A Swedish documentary about Joseph and his wife Peggy was released in 2013. Joseph W. Sarno passed away on April 26, 2010 at the age of 89.
