Following the end of his playing days, he worked as an assistant to the Padres’ baseball operations department. Loretta last played in an MLB game on October 4, 2009. He is a two-time MLB All-Star (2004, 2006) and won the Silver Slugger Award in 2004. In 2012, he coached Israel’s national baseball team in the World Baseball Classic qualifier for 2013, though the team failed to get into the tournament.
