He started his coaching career as an Offensive assistant for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers in 2000. McCoy became Carolina’s wide receivers coach in 2001, offensive assistant from 2002 to 2003, quarterbacks and offensive assistant coach from 2004 to 2005, quarterbacks coach in 2006, and passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2007 to 2008. In 2009 he joined the Denver Broncos where he served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2009 and offensive coordinator from 2010 to 2012. In 2013 McCoy got his first head coaching job as coach of the San Diego Chargers. In his first year as head coach he led the Chargers to a record of 9-7.
