Ripley was featured on radio for 14 years starting in 1930. In 1933 he opened his first museum called the Odditorium in Chicago, Illinois. He was voted the most popular man in America by the New York Times. His cartoon series was said to have 80 million readers worldwide and to receive more mail than the President of the United States. Robert Ripley passed away on May 27, 1949 from a heart attack at the age of 58.
