He successfully ran the business until 1995 when he sold the company to Wendy’s for $600 million. But after the purchase, he became the fast food chain’s largest shareholder, gaining more than 16 million shares. By 2003, he had freed from all of his Wendy’s shares and since he has diversified his portfolio, buying shares in well-established Canadian companies and industries that generate considerable dividend income. Today, he owns an aircraft charter company and the Fox Harb’r golf resort on the north shore of Nova Scotia. In addition, he serves as chairman emeritus of the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation.
