In 1994 he became the first Military Assistant to the Secretary of State for Defence. He became a Captain in 1995. In 2009 he became Head of Profession for the British Government’s Property Asset Management community. In 2010 Laurence retired from the Navy. Laurence served as Equerry to Queen Elizabeth II from 1986 to 1989. During that time he met Princess Anne. The pair was married in December 1992. In 2011 he was knighted by the Queen as a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.
