He led the NL in saves in 1998 and 2006. The San Diego Padres retired his number –51 –, and he was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame. He became the first pitcher in pro baseball to hit 500 and 600 saves. After his 2011 retirement, he began working with the Padres in an assistant role. He has been married to his wife, Tracy, since the early ’90s. Hoffman is an active supporter of the National Kidney Foundation.
